N2 - introduction. Community-acquired pneumonia (cap) is one of the leading causes of death due to infection. objective. To determine the compliance to clinical practice guidelines for cap in a high level medical institution. methods and materials. descriptive retrospective study, which included patients with a diagnosis of cap. An instrument was designed for collecting data, likewise the curb-65 scale was used for assessing the severity of pneumonia. results. 522 medical records of patients with cap were analyzed, the average age was 66.5 ± 19.4 years old, and females were predominant. The most frequent comorbidities were cardiopulmonary disease 65.7%, smoking 26.6% and alcoholism 7.3%. The curb-65 score was applied only in 11.5% of patients, 64.4% received treatment in hospital general ward, 6.7% in icu and 28.9% as outpatients; in 68% of patients was used one of the indicated therapies, the doses were correct in 90.7% but only 62.9% for correct time. discussion. The levels of adherence to treatment guidelines show low compliance with established protocols. It is advisable to follow the guidelines established by the institutions for the treatment of diseases such as cap, because they are made based on scientific evidence, local microbiological profile and seek to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases.
