Abstract
This article analyzes the possibility of producing high quality activated carbon using precipitated lignin from black liquor. This is a by-product of paper sludge coming from tissue paper plants. The objective is to find a viable alternative in order to diminish the environmental impact that this industry generates. The activated carbon was prepared using phosphoric acid as active agent, changing the relation between the residue and the acid, the incubation period, the activation period, and the period of carbonization.
