Abstract

This chapter provides a concluding commentary that synthesizes the preceding chapters and proposes additional avenues for expansion and discussion. The chapters are threaded around three main clusters: the ideas of evolution, communication, and adaptation. First, the chapter explains how each idea connects to gaming and ties into the Language-as-Victory (LaV) Framework. Then, the chapter describes how adaptation appears as an overarching theme in specific chapters. This section goes beyond just summarizing the chapters while serving as a rationale for one of the possible Reading Quests that #TeamLaV proposed at the beginning of this volume. The chapter also proposes possible lessons or future directions for each cluster, framed as aftermaths. Each section brings up the aftermath of the two vantage points that comprise #TeamLaV's position regarding second language users: as gamers and teachers. The aftermath for users will discuss our vision for the possibilities that gamers may find to strengthen their language competence as they continue to engage with their games. The aftermaths for teachers discuss possible avenues where gaming can provide more opportunities to enrich the language classroom.
