    Abstract

Triage is a scoring system that allows prioritizing patient care based on the classification of patients according the acuteness and clinical severity of each of them. In turn, it allows recognizing the resources that they should have for each of the patients according to the severity of their disease. In this article, five systems that have been developed and used around the world are proposed: the Australian Triage Scale (ATS), the Canadian Emergency Department Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), the Manchester Triage System (MTS), the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) and the Spanish Triage System (SET) adopted by the Spanish Society of Emergency Medicine (SEMES) based on the Andorrá Triatge Model (MAT). There are multiple factors that influence when going to the emergency services, such as location, age, gender, day of the week and time. Triage is a methodology applied worldwide for the prioritization of patients who goes to an emergency service. Although there are several tools to carry it out, in general it allows the classification of patients and impacting the quality and timing of care.
