Abstract

The objective of this paper was to submit a procedure that may serve as a reference to the occupational health organizations in order to improve working conditions based on ergonomics. It emphasized the need and the importance of qualitatively and quantitatively justifying the ergonomic interventions to improve the conditions of workstation and systems when they are submitted to the managers of the organization. The process is divided into five activities: (1) identifying problems in the workstation, (2) ergonomic assessment of workstations (3), suggesting ergonomic interventions (4) evaluating proposals, and (5) implementation and monitoring. The steps of the procedure were developed based on the experience accumulated in prior research projects by the authors, and taking into account other models and procedures. Finally, it should be pointed out that making sucessful intervention for improved working conditions and better worker's health requires the active participation of all the staff involved in the analyzed activities.
