Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic compliance of patients in renal replacement therapy in a highly complex renal unit. Material and Method: A cross-sectional prospective study was carried out in a highly complex renal unit in, Medellín, Colombia, from May to August 2018. Participants were > 18 years old with a confirmed diagnosis of chronic kidney disease and in peritoneal dialysis. For the information recollection, data of the clinical history and the Batalla and Morisky-Green tests were used. Results: Fifty-six patients participated, the average age was 54.8 years and female sex predominated (53.6%). The most frequent pathological findings were high blood pressure (85.7%), diabetes (41.1%) and acute kidney injury (26.7%). It was found that 37.5% of the participants were compliant according to the indicator of knowledge of the disease of the Batalla test while the compliance according to the Morisky-Green test was 67.9%. Conclusions: Low therapeutic compliance is shown by patients with chronic kidney disease, this implies that the teams in charge of patients in renal replacement therapy should review their education processes focusing on empowering the patient, allowing them to position it as a direct influence of their results and quality of life in dialysis therapy.
