Abstract
Overload is one of the phenomena presented in caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. The objective of this research was to identify the factors that influence the overload of informal caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's who participate in an intervention program in Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia. Cross-sectional study nested in a randomized controlled trial with 3 groups in parallel, and a convenience sample of 58 caregivers; The Zarit caregiver load scale and a structured interview were applied, a mixed effects model with unstructured variance was used. It was found that the mean age was 55.6 years, 79.3 % women and 70.7 % children; a low use of support networks (8.6 %) and a median dedication to care of 24 hours / day. As factors associated with overload, for each year of the caregiver, overload decreases 0.5 points (p = 0.005); As well as being more overburdened, caregivers whose patients have a greater impact on behavior (p = 0.003), caregivers who have another job (p = 0.025), and the lack of support provided by other family members (p = 0.014).
