Abstract

The aim of this article is to show the results of a research exercise done by a team of professors of the Language Center of Pontificia Bolivariana University, Monteria, Campus. They organized a set of reading strategies oriented towards the development of critical thinking skills. They were addressed from Facione´s (2007) theoretical proposal to determine its relevance. Those strategies were applied to students who just entered to high education programs. The descriptive and correlational methods, from a mixed approach, were utilized. Besides, a multivariate analysis was used to observe the interrelation among the variables, due to the fact that they needed to be studied simultaneously. For pedagogical
mediation, five strategies were implemented in relation to critical thinking skills. The findings showed a real and a critical view of performance in terms of critical thinking and reading comprehension.
