Abstract
Natural gas is a fuel that has boomed in recent times due to its high availability and the fact that it is the petroleumbased fuel with the cleanest combustion process. The global gas market is much smaller than that of oil, this is caused by the difficulty of transporting it and the cost because its energy content is low in relation to the volume it
occupies; This is why it is necessary to implement all possible strategies that allow the best use of the transportation
systems currently implemented, the most relevant being the gas pipeline, which is made up of a system of pipes, measurement and control stations, and gas stations. Of compression; The latter are the ones that have the greatest influence on the reliability and availability of the natural gas transportation system. Due to the above, the objective of this project was the prediction of the reliability and availability of the compression stations that make up the Ballena
– Cartagena – Jobo trunk gas pipeline; for which a taxonomy was established, a functional analysis was developed,
the critical subsystems, the main causes of failure and the reliability block diagrams were defined that allowed
through data reported in databases such as Oreda, and under the consideration that they are in the useful life period of
their life cycle, predict the reliability and availability of each of them; Among the most relevant results is the
definition of three equivalent compressor stations (ECS) that allow predicting the behavior of the reliability and availability of these systems in the studied gas pipeline; in addition to the identification of the gas turbine as the most critical asset within a natural gas compression station
