    Abstract

The Mediterranean diet is a dietary pattern that has been shown to be efficient in improving the health of those who follow it. The aim of this study is to measure the relationships between Mediterranean diet and sleep quality and some items of the ICSP, in a sample of university students from the city of Medellin, Colombia. The KIDMED questionnaires, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and some questions related to height, weight, body mass index, age, and hours of exercise of the students were applied. The results suggest that there are two statistically significant differences, where the score of participants in stratum 5 and 6 is significantly higher than that of participants in stratum 1 and 2 (p = .001), and that of participants in stratum 3 and 4 (p = .003). This result suggests that participants in a higher socioeconomic stratum are those who adhere to the Mediterranean diet to a greater extent. The data are discussed based on the results found.
