Abstract
Ni (II) is a toxic metal that is present in wastewater effluents, for example in the electroplating industry. This work shows the potential for Ni (II) removal using activated carbon from waste tires. The waste tires were pyrolyzed at controlled conditions and the resulting char was subsequently treated with HCl (1M) and impregnated with calcium prior to the activation process using CO2. Subsequently, the effect of the adsorbent dose and the pH of the aqueous solution were identified, finding that the optimal conditions for a suitable adsorption were 0.175g/25mL and 6, respectively, for 65% of removal. Additionally, studies of kinetics and adsorption isotherms were carried out in order to demonstrate the behavior of the experimental data and the interaction between the adsorbate-adsorbent.
