Socio-demographic variables explaining the variability in the structure and functioning of war victims’ social support networks

Abstract

Empirical evidence suggests that the structure and the patterns of interaction of the victims’ social network areabruptlyalteredasaresultofexposuretowarviolence.Theaims of this study are to examine the effects of age, length of residence in the community and educational level on: (a) network density, (b) homophily and (c) of social support multiplicity of war victims. Methods.– A cross-sectional exploratory study was carried out to achievethe study objectives. The participants are 106 residents (86 female, 81.1%) of a rural community. The mean age of the participants is 42.5 years (SD=16.4) an donaverage they has been living in the community for 28.8 years (SD=18.7). Most of the participants have primary education studies (47.2%). An egocentric networks design was developed to evaluate the structure and function of social support networks.
