Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the current state of Public Service Media (PSM) reputation in Europe. PSM outlets in Europe, as well as in Latin America and other parts of the world, are experiencing a decline in audience numbers, trust and credibility. Credibility and reputation are closely linked to brand image, corporate image, and the emotional connection with the audience. The text describes how a sustained, clear and focused corporate social responsibility action and a transparent governance over time, with a process of accountability, can lead not only to a good reputation but also to an emotional and identity link with the community to which the public media address their messages. The chapter presents a case study of Televisió de Catalunya (Catalonia, Spain) and its telethon, La Marató, which aims to raise funds for scientific research on various diseases. In today’s environment, where the credibility of the media, including public media, is being questioned, it is crucial to carefully nurture and monitor reputation.
