N2 - This paper presents an approach to perform the Risk Based optimization of Testing of safety systems at Chemical Plants, which is referred herein as RBT optimization approach. This approach is based on the use of the Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) of the Chemical Plant as a mean to integrate the RAM of safety systems and plant risk into a unified framework for the decision-making on testing optimization. By so doing, it is possible to make decisions on the problem that is twofold, i.e. RAM and risk, in a compact and more comprehensive way than the one adopted for example in the standards Risk-Based Inspection and IEC61508 approaches, by formulating the decision-making problem in terms of either multiple or single objective optimization problem.
