Resumen
introduction. Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, affecting mainly low income groups, as minorities ethnic, street dwellers, migrants, and inmates. The socioeconomic characteristics that most influence the presentation of the disease are poverty, overcrowding, malnutrition and migration to other places. Chocó department is a very susceptible territory to suffer tuberculosis cases. objective. Characterize pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis cases, reported to the tuberculosis program in the department of Chocó during the period 2012-2015. materials and methods. A longitudinal descriptive study was conducted in people who were diagnosed by clinical or microbiological methods for tuberculosis in the department of Chocó and who were reported to the Departmental Tuberculosis Control Program between the years 2012-2015. results. During the study period, 1 081 cases of tuberculosis were reported, there was a predominance of male gender (51.6 vs. 48.9%). The age group with the highest incidence includes those with 45 to 54 years and 55 to 64. Municipalities with most tuberculosis cases were those with the highest population density: Quibdó, Bojayá, Tadó and Bagadó. conclusions. Cases incidence in this study is higher than that reported by the Ministry of Health for the same period, evidencing an underreporting of cases, which may have consequences in the planning of the program and the care of patients in this Colombia region.
