Enfermedad de graves: Características generales e implicaciones hematológicas.

Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder in which autoantibodies activate the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor and lead to excessive production of T4 and T3 and increased growth of the thyroid gland. It is the most important cause of hyperthyroidism; diagnosis is based on clinical suspicion +
measurement of TSH and thyroid hormone profile + measurement of TRAb antibodies. Treatments include radioactive iodine therapy, radioactive iodine + prednisolone, antithyroid drugs and thyroidectomy. Antithyroid treatments are an important triggering factor for hematologic alterations in patients
with severe disease. Although hematological alterations are significant in the quality of life, morbidity and mortality in this disease, they are not the most frequent, but thrombocytopenia, which is directly caused by it, can put the patient’s life at risk.
