Resumen
affect the tissue and space surrounding the pulmonary alveoli, known as the interstitium. These diseases are characterized by inflammation and fibrosis of the pulmonary parenchyma, which can lead to reduced lung capacity and respiratory difficulties. One of their most important features is their association with autoimmune diseases, the most common being rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Sjögren’s syndrome. Chronic inflammation caused by the autoimmune response can trigger fibrotic processes in the lungs, leading to the formation of scar tissue and loss of lung function. Additionally, immunosuppressive treatments used to manage autoimmune diseases may have side effects that negatively impact the lungs.
