Resumen
Infections are common in critical care and are considered the leading cause of mortality among critically ill patients. Bacteria are developing resistance mechanisms much more rapidly than the discovery of new antibiotics. For this reason, optimising the management of the available antibiotics increases the chance of successful therapy and avoids the emergence of resistant flora. A fundamental aspect of the proper use of antimicrobials is the knowledge of their properties, a fact that motivates the following review of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the groups of antibiotics frequently used in intensive care.
