In this chapter, we treat the decrease in the inertia of the electrical power system when VSC HVDC systems are incorporated. We expose the basics on electromechanical stability with intention of developing VSC HVDC control strategies to allow balancing generation-demand equilibrium. In these terms, we explain approaches with philosophy of comparisons, in which inertia emulation is the focus. Three strategies are put in common terms showing their related features. With one of the control methods, the expected inertia constant is programmed in advance to fulfill the desired response of the system when submitted to disturbances.
