Resumen

The objective of this article is to analyze the effectiveness of interdisciplinary practice in education between the faculties of Law and Medicine, focusing on the application of genetic principles in paternity testing. Regarding the methodology, the activity was carried out at a private university in Medellín, with the participation of 70 students from the Law and Medicine programs. The activity was considered mandatory for both programs. The work was organized in three stages: the first consisted of providing students with an explanation that addressed the fundamental foundations of the human genome and Mendelian inheritance; the second involved a practical activity in which students constructed a three-dimensional representation of the genome; and finally, genetic paternity test reports were analyzed. Student opinions were collected on the contribution of the activity to their training and skills development. Results: 97.2% of students perceived that the interdisciplinary practice contributed positively to their professional development. 85.8% strongly agreed that the activity allowed them to develop skills in their respective fields. Conclusions: Interdisciplinary collaboration between the faculties of law and medicine in the context of paternity testing is positioned as an effective strategy in the educational field. This cooperation contributes to the generation of new knowledge and promotes the development of integrative skills in students. It should be acknowledged that the lack of objective measurement of pre- and post-test knowledge is a limitation for objectively assessing the results of the test.
