Resumen
The end groups of a reference unsaturated polyester (RUP) were modified by cyanuric chloride (CC). A RUP was synthesized, optimal conditions for the modification by CC were determined by applying an analysis of variance (ANOVA), where the factor with the greatest influence was CC concentration [CC] and response variable was apparent viscosity (η) at 25°C in solution in styrene. From ANOVA was obtained the [CC] at which there is a modified polyester (MP) whose viscosity is lower than RUP viscosity. From flow curves were obtained, η, RUP = 546 cP, and η, MP = 337 cP. Analysis by ATR-FTIR and 13C NMR allowed to estimate the MP structure. Modification of the hydroxyl end groups improved the polymer chain flexibility. The reduction of polar chain interactions led to a lower viscosity, an advantage during resin processing.
