Resumen
Introduction Prostate cancer is one of the major urological problems in the male population, with a solid tumour being the most common in this group, and currently represents the second cause of death in the world. Materials and methods A review was carried out on the medical records of patients with prostate cancer treated by a urology incology group in Medellin, between May 2010 and March 2014. Results A total of 32 patients were identified, for whom an extra-institutional review of prostate biopsies was requested by the Hospital Pablo Tobon Uribe before offering any treatment. An analysis was made of the centres of origin of the specimens and their quality, as well as the report of the histopathological findings, PSA levels, immunohistochemistry, the results of the review, the treatment offered, and the final outcome of the pathological anatomy. The number of patients with reviews of prostate biopsies with different reported histological findings was initially 12, therefore in our population, 37% of patients had different histologies in the review of prostate biopsy, and the findings in tumour grade were higher in 9 of the 12 cases. Conclusion Review of prostate biopsies by experts is helpful before proposing any therapeutic option to the patient, as over one-third of patients have a higher histological grade than that initially reported.
