Usage of passive and active samplers for quick evaluation of air quality in small townships

Resumen

Corantioquia and REDAIRE, cooperation agreement between five Universities from the Department of Antioquia - Colombia and Environment Authorities, undertook the research project "Base Line of Air Quality in 10 Municipalities of the Corantioquia Jurisdiction" in 2003. For the four sampling points (Santa Fe de Antioquia, La Pintada, Andes, Yarumal, and Caucasia), total suspended particulate (TSP) and PM10 particles levels were low. The highest settling rate was found in the Girardota-Barbosa corridor with high industrial development and high levels of vehicles. Rural areas in the Aburra Valley showed the highest values of the sample, but even so they were under standards. Other small localities did not have air pollution problems. Pollutants surveyed included TSP, PM10, settleable particles, SO2, ozone, and NOx.
